Is Your Church Praying for the Persecuted Church?

Isolation. An intense feeling of being alone. This is a big struggle for many Christians living in societies that hate Christians. The prophet Elijah struggled with this, too. When Jezebel threatened to track him down and kill him, he told God, “I, even I only, am left, and they seek my life to take it away.” God showed Elijah that he was not alone. God was with him — and 7,000 others who had not bowed the knee to false gods.

On the International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church, your church can join with thousands of others to petition God and — like the faithful 7,000 in the hostile world of Elijah’s time — encourage suffering Christians that they are not alone.

We have designed a resource kit for the International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church. It has posters, Scriptures, worship songs, bulletin inserts, a video, cards to write notes to persecuted Christians, and even materials for children. This is a simple way to unite your church as one body to “Remember those who are in prison, as though in prison with them, and those who are mistreated, since you also are in the body.” Hebrews 13:3.

Many Christians are not aware that their brothers and sisters in countries like Bangladesh, Egypt, Pakistan, Iraq and Myanmar face serious discrimination every day. Sometimes it is outright — like ISIS slaughtering and destroying Christian communities, or Muslims kidnapping young Christian women for forced marriages and forced conversions. At other times it is masked, like jailing Christians on charges of “subversion”.

The International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church is traditionally the first or second Sunday in November. Christian Freedom International’s kit can be used anytime of the year. This kit is a terrific resource for pastors and ministry leaders — and a gift you can give to plan for a dedicated day to remember the persecuted.

This is a way to share your passion for the persecuted Church with other Christians.
