After the Attacks: Helping Survivors in Nigeria

“Christians are being systematically exterminated in Nigeria. Imagine the families and children left behind after this butchery. Pray for the persecuted church.”

Andrew Kolvet, Turning Point USA

“I’m not a Christian, but they are systematically killing the Christians in Nigeria. They’ve killed over 100,000 since 2009. They’ve burned 18,000 churches. These are the Islamists . . . They are literally attempting to wipe out the Christian population of an entire country.”

Bill Maher, TV talk show host.

“I am alive because God wants you to have this message: Knowing Christ’ is ‘deeper’ than knowing Islamists’ story of hate and intolerance.”

A Nigerian Evangelical survivor.

Christians in Nigeria urgently need help.

Over 7,000 Christians were killed last year. Thousands more are suffering from brutal attacks by Islamists. Shouting “Allahu Akbar”, these militants invade villages, burn homes, and massacre Christians with machetes and guns. Their goal is to exterminate Christianity.

We’ve urged the U.S. State Department to act. We’ve sent petitions to the U.S President. We are telling the stories of Nigerian Christians so you can pray.

Finally, the world is noticing. Christian leaders, government officials, even secular
pundits are condemning the “Christian genocide in Nigeria”.

Thank God for this awakening! But this is only the first step. The next step is helping the survivors – our Christian brothers and sisters – begin a new life after the attacks.

  • Schooling and food for orphaned children.
  • Training for widows and young adults to provide for their families.
  • Bible teaching and discipleship to know and rely on God.

With God’s grace, we can help turn tragedies into testimonies of Christians working together to overcome persecution.

READY TO DIE, SPARED TO LIVE FOR CHRIST

In March, Bishop Wilfred Anagbe testified at a U.S. Congressional hearing on the persecution of Christians in Nigeria: “Militant [Muslim] Fulani herdsmen are terrorists destroying society. They steal and vandalize, they kill and boast about it, they kidnap and rape, and they enjoy total impunity from the elected authorities.” The violence is a “long-term, Islamic agenda” to eliminate Christians.

Soon after his testimony, Fulani militants attacked the bishop’s home village and massacred his relatives.

Rep. Chris Smith opened the hearing with this testimony:

I met with an evangelical believer, Habila Adamu. Dragged from his
home by Boko Haram terrorists, he was ordered to renounce his faith.
With an AK-47 pressed to his face, he was asked, “Are you ready to
die as a Christian?

With extraordinary courage, Habila answered, “Yes, I am ready to die as
a Christian.” He was asked a second time. He said, “Yes, I am ready to die
as a Christian.” This time, the terrorist pulled the trigger. A bullet ripped
through Habila’s face. He fell to the ground, left for dead. By some miracle,
he survived.

Habila said, “I am alive because God wants you to have this message:
Knowing Christ is so much ‘deeper’ than merely knowing Boko Haram’s
story of hate.”

He closed with this: “Do everything you can to end this ruthless religious
persecution . . . but know Christ first.”

Christians in Nigeria are paying the ultimate price for knowing Christ.
They need us to stand with them as they face severe persecution.

First, pray. Will you ask God to defend and empower Christians,
heal the wounded, and raise up wise and courageous leaders?

Second, support Christian survivors. Will you help provide food, education, and training for Christians to build a new life after the attacks? This is crucial – not only for the survival of our fellow Christians but for the future of the church in Nigeria.
You can learn about ways to help below.

Even as we pressure the Nigerian government to end the genocide of Christians, we must remember the survivors.

Will you help Christian families and children to build their lives after the brutal attacks?

Helping Survivors After Attacks

In Nigeria, Christians are brutally attacked and slaughtered by Islamist militants

The brutality is unimaginable and numbers are staggering. Christians are slaughtered by guns and
machetes, churches destroyed, homes and shops burned. For survivors of Islamist attacks, their ordeal has just begun. They’ve lost family, livelihoods, and hope.

We can help Christians begin a new life after the attacks.

For a widow who has survived terrifying attacks, for a child who has lost parents, for youth who are traumatized, our support can make all the difference. We can help equip them for a better future. We can help show that God sees and is working out is plan for their life.

With your support, our partners provide:

TRAINING FOR WIDOWS
Naomi’s husband was killed and their property destroyed by Islamist militants.
With skills that she learned at a CFI project for widows, she cares for her two
children by farming sugar cane.

DISCIPLESHIP AND SUPPORT
Christians traumatized by Islamist violence
find new purpose and renewed faith at a
training and discipleship center supported by CFI.

SCHOOLING FOR CHILDREN
School is out of reach for children who cannot afford tuition, books, uniforms, and food. With your support, we can give children the opportunity to achieve a brighter future.

Joy’s father was killed in a Muslim Fulani
terror attack and their home was burned.
Her mother is elderly and unable to work.

Her goal: “I want to be a teacher.”
Prayer Request: “For God to provide and guide us.”

Kelvin’s father was killed because of his
faith. He and his five siblings were left with
their grandmother. “We have been praying
that God will open another source of help
for us so that we can be able to go to
school and be great in the future.”

His goal: “I want to be an engineer to help my grandmother and my siblings.
Prayer Request: “For my grandmother who is taking care of us that God will strengthen her and provide for her so she may provide our needs.”

Abigail’s father was returning from a
church meeting when Islamist militants
ambushed and killed him. She has 4 siblings. Her mother is a farmer.

Her goal: “I wish to be a nurse to help the sick.”
Prayer Request: “For God to protect my family and many Christians in the country who are going through persecution.”

Christians in Nigeria are paying the ultimate price for knowing Christ.
We can stand with them as they face severe persecution.

Pray for Christians to be strengthened with:

  • Faith to overcome despair.
  • Aid to survive.
  • Skills and education to provide for a bright future.
  • Healing and redemption to begin new lives in Christ.

Thank you for coming alongside to help persecuted Christians.
