Saying “Yes”

One hundred and forty children who survived horrific persecution are in school today because you helped us to say “yes”.

Not long ago, their villages in Nigeria were brutally attacked by Islamists. Families were killed. Homes abandoned. The children survived by running far away.

They reached a crowded camp of other survivors. But that camp closed, and the children – some with widowed mothers, others orphaned – were scattered to live with impoverished relatives where food is scarce and school, their ticket to the future, is a privilege.

For these children, school is not just a classroom. It is a lifeline when they have lost nearly everything else.

At first, an organization provided funding for 140 children to attend school. But last year, suddenly and after the school year had begun, their funding vanished. As much as the schools wanted to help, they could not cover all these children.

That is when our partner reached out to us.

The cost was significant – but the price of not acting was undeniable. If the children lost this opportunity, they may not get another chance.

This is exactly why you and others give to “Most Urgent Needs.” So that together we can act – and act quickly – to help persecuted Christians. Because you and others were prompted by God and generously gave, we said yes.

We were able to cover an entire year of tuition, books, and uniforms for every one of the 140 children. In a moment when they could have suffered another loss, your giving became a rescue at just the right time.

An uncle expressed his gratitude to CFI for providing schooling for his two nephews. He can barely provide for his children and is raising his nephews after his sister was murdered by Islamists.

In March, CFI president Wendy Wright visited the children in their schools in Jos, Nigeria.

Their mothers and relatives showed up to express their gratitude.

“Letter of Appreciation

We the parents of Gwoza community living in Bukuru Plateau State sincerely wish to express our profound gratitude towards the academic provisions of our beloved children who were displaced due to insurgency.

If not for your organization these children would have been out of school, beggars and thieves.

God in His infinite mercy will reward each and everyone of you who have taken this burden of feeding, clothing, and every other academic need.

God bless you.

Yours Faithfully,

Emmanuel Attaway”
